GALLOWAY – A 52-year-old local man died Monday, Dec. 30 after the motorized scooter he was driving was struck by a car on Moss Mill Road.

A 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Michael Ryan, 24, of Galloway was traveling east on Moss Mill Road at 6:15 p.m., according to police.

His vehicle struck the scooter driven by Joseph Strike Jr., 52, of Galloway near the intersection with Quail Hill Boulevard.

“A witness recalled seeing the scooter stationary in the eastbound lane of Moss Mill for an unknown reason prior to impact,” police said.

The Galloway Township Ambulance Squad rushed Strike to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center medics also responded to the accident scene.

Moss Mill Road was closed for two hours between Quail Hill Boulevard and Smith Bowen Road while the site was investigated and the roadway cleared.

The accident is being investigated by Officers Steve Garrison and Patrick Neal and Officer Kevin Costa of the Traffic Safety Unit.

Members of the Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company were also at the scene where the weather was reported to have been clear and the road surface dry.
