Mara Justine Platt wins first round on America's Got Talent Mara Justine Platt wins first round on America's Got Talent GALLOWAY- Mara Justine Platt is not your typical 11-year-old who has dreams of becoming a singer. She’s the real deal. The Galloway resident wowed the judges on “America’s Got Talent” belting out the song “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

“It was so exciting to be on Americas Got Talent, it was my first time in front of a big audience and a giant stage,” Platt said in an email.

It may not have looked it from her perfect performance, but she had butterflies.

“I was so nervous and then when the music started, I just got right into the song. It was such an amazing feeling to be on that stage, I was still shaking,” Platt said. “I was so nervous in front of the judges and so many people. When the audience started to cheer I was so scared I wasn't expecting that so it shocked me. It's such an amazing feeling.”

She attributes her phenomenal performance on a great vocal coach, Sal Dupree. “He taught me this arrangement of the song, he is just amazing,” she said.

While Platt may have made it look easy, she said she worked really hard to prepare for her audition. Family helped her focus.

“I was so nervous preparing for the audition, my brothers and sister and my mom were there so it made it much easier to have them supporting me,” she said.

Not only were her family, mom and four siblings supportive, but her classmates and teachers.

“My friends at school were so nice and have been really supporting me too,” Platt said. “The teachers got me flowers, I couldn't believe it.

At the end of her performance Justine said she got so emotional because her family, who love watching her on stage, cried. “They make me cry. They tell me they are so proud,” she said.

Perhaps everyone was awestruck. She wowed the judges and her outstanding performance led to a standing ovation.

“When I saw everyone stand, even the judges, I was so overwhelmed with happiness I couldn't stop crying and shaking,” Platt said.

Platt is ready for the next round on “America’s Got Talent.” The show did not supply a definite date for her next round but the program airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.

“I love to be on stage and will work as hard as it takes because this is a dream come true! I will never take for granted this opportunity that Americas Got Talent has given me. I hope I can make everyone proud!”
