Trash choice protects local jobs

To the editor:

As a resident of Galloway Township, I currently have to pay for my own trash collection.  I pay the company, and they haul it away.

Not much thought really went into it up until recently when I heard that this big company, Waste Management, is going to be taking our trash out of state.  This could put local revenues – and possibly, local employee jobs – at stake.

What can we do about this?  Well, you have a choice to change this if you pay to have your trash removed, and that’s exactly what I did. I cancelled my services with Waste Management and switched to a local company called EarthTech.  It even turned out to be a cheaper alternative, so I can save money, too.  This provides just one example of how taking small steps can lead to making a difference.
