To the editor:
At the Feb. 14 Galloway Council meeting, the status of the revised township website was questioned by a council member. In moving to complete this revision, I would like Galloway Council to consider including the following:
The Governor’s Best Practices Checklist CY 2011 asks this question:
“Does your municipality maintain an up-to-date municipal website containing, but not limited to the past three years’ adopted budgets; the current year proposed budget including the full adopted budget for current year when approved by the governing body; most recent annual financial statements and audits; notifications for solicitation of bids and RFPs (requests for proposals); employee contract information; meeting dates, minutes and agendas for the governing body, planning board, board of adjustment and all commissions?”
The township has made some of the checklist items available on the website, but some have not been included.
This checklist is an excellent foundation. In addition, I would ask council to consider including bill lists, professional contracts, employee job descriptions, and making video of Township Council, Planning and Zoning board meetings available online. It would also be beneficial to post the minutes of the new council-based economic development committee and the community-based advisory board meetings so that residents can see what is being discussed by these groups.
Some council members and citizens have voiced their concern over the amount of recent OPRA requests. If the above noted items were added to the website, making them available to everyone, the volume of OPRA requests could be reduced.
