HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – The Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District is inviting parents and community members to a special seminar on “Raising Successful Students” 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 in the Oakcrest High School Performing Arts Center.

The program will be conducted by Bruce Boguski, author, motivational speaker, columnist and media personality who is well known for his ability to inspire others to “Do the Impossible.”

ESTELL MANOR - Learn how to plan canoe and kayak paddling trips on the Great Egg Harbor River between Penny Pot and Lake Lenape from Fred Akers, administrator of the Great Egg Harbor River Watershed.

Akers is the featured presenter 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26 as part of the Speaker’s Series offered by the Atlantic County Division of Parks and Recreation.

Students will have an opportunity to follow their schedule of classes, find and open their lockers, pick up information on clubs and activities, and take part in team-building activities with their mentors.  Scheduling and photo ID issues will also be addressed. HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – Oakcrest High School will host freshman orientation for incoming ninth-grade and transfer students from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 21. Transportation will be provided.

Students will be introduced to building administrators, department supervisors and other staff that they will be working with over the next four years.

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – The William Davies Middle School will be conducting its annual orientation for incoming sixth-grade students and their parents Wednesday, Aug. 13 with sessions at 6 p.m. and 7:15.

Topics include scheduling, technology, immunization, the student handbook, school activities and physicals. Parents will be able to meet administrators and teachers, and ask questions. There will also be a chance to tour part of the Davies School, and have students practice opening their lockers.

Atlantic County’s 4-H Fair educates and encourages responsibility in young people through a diverse range of projects and activities they oversee that are then showcased at the fair. Atlantic County’s 4-H Fair educates and encourages responsibility in young people through a diverse range of projects and activities they oversee that are then showcased at the fair. HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – The Atlantic County 4-H Fair, a local tradition since 1948, returns to the David C. Wood 4-H Fairgrounds Aug. 7, 8, and 9.

For three days each year the 4-H Fair invites you to enjoy the tradition as it comes alive with kids, livestock, carnival rides and contests, along with demonstrations of projects and programs designed to further the education and leadership development of Atlantic County’s young people.

The Egg Harbor City Kiwanis Club is soliciting nominations for its 2014 Citizen of the Year award. Nominations must be submitted in writing to the Kiwanis Club secretary at 406 Chicago Ave., Egg Harbor City by Aug. 15.

This annual award is given to a Greater Egg Harbor City area resident who has contributed to the community’s civic or social well being. 

Ultimate Spokes Dogs

The Mays Landing Branch of the Atlantic County Library System, 40 Farragut Ave., presents ultimate spoke dogs from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24. Participants of all ages will learn from presenters Donna Downs and Colleen McIntyre-Berenetto about the differences between therapy dogs, service dogs, support animals and others. The Teen SEALS (Students Employ Assistance and Library Service) meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 27 at the Atlantic County Library System/Mays Landing Branch, 40 Farragut Ave. The meeting will discuss Summer Reading Program activities and lean about volunteer opportunities. Annual Chicken Bar-B-Q

The Dorothy Volunteer Fire Company will host its fifty-seventh annual Chicken Bar-B-Q from noon-6p.m. on Sunday, June 1 at the Firehouse Grove, 70 Tuckahoe Road in Dorothy. Platters are $11 and include half a chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob, potato chips, a pickle, roll and butter. Also available are hot dogs, clams, funnel cake and desserts. There will be games, music, raffles, hayrides and more. Chicken platter tickers are available from the Fire Company and the Ladies Auxiliary members or at the door.  Band and Choir Fundraiser

The Cedar Creek High School Band and Choir will hold a fundraiser at 7p.m. on Friday, June 6, in the school’s Performing Arts Center. “A Night of Broadway” will feature Broadway songs sung by the band, choir and drama students. The school library will be transformed into a charming setting for the tea social. The school library will be transformed into a charming setting for the tea social. HAMILTON – “Live the life you love, love the life you live” is the theme of the ninth annual ladies tea slated for Friday, March 28 at the William Davies Middle School.

March is Women’s History Month, and the annual program aims to provide an opportunity for approximately 65 selected female students to learn from women who have excelled in various professions. The goal of the tea is to inspire young women to achieve their dreams as they continue their education.
