HAMILTON – Atlantic County Sheriff Frank X. Balles was recognized Dec. 16 for giving extraordinary support of employees serving in the New Jersey National Guard and Reserve.

Balles received the Patriot Award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a mostly volunteer military support agency.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Sgt. 1st Class LeVar Curry, New Jersey ESGR chairman. “Sheriff Balles was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard and Reserve. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“I am honored to do my small part by supporting those officers that are enlisted in any part of our military forces,” said Balles.  “We are a civil service agency and therefore we employ many with veteran’s status and it is our honor to be as supportive as we can as they fulfill their duty to this great country.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service.  ESGR advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between service members and employers.

ESGR encourages employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
