HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – The Planning Board unanimously gave preliminary major subdivision approval Jan. 19 to a 24-unit housing development at the former site of Sunshine Park, a world-famous nudist colony.

The board approved plans and variances requested by Charlor LLC to build on a 35-acre lot off Sunny Lane, the main drive to the park.

Sunshine Park operated through 1983. The property has fallen into disrepair in the decades since it closed.

Developer George Phy said construction could be years away and will be dependent on Pinelands Commission approval and market conditions.
