HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – A township police officer is recovering at home after he was struck by a vehicle Tuesday night, Nov. 27 while investigating a motor vehicle crash on Route 40.

Officer Arthur Train was handling a minor motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Routes 40 and 606 near the Harding Lakes section in Mays Landing at 6:27 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Roslyn Herron, 86, of Vineland.

Train was out of his patrol vehicle and handing documents to one of the drivers when the accident occurred. Police said Herron had just begun to proceed onto Route 40 from the stop sign at Route 606 when her vehicle hit Train from behind.

He suffered what is believed to be minor injuries and was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center by the Hamilton Township Rescue Squad, where he was released later that night, police said.

Herron had minor damage to her vehicle and received a summons for careless driving, according to reports. This case is being investigated by Sgt. Chris Prychka
