Stolen gun, heroin found during DUI stop

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - A 28-year-old Mays Landing man was arrested in the early morning hours Friday, Jan. 25 when he was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun and heroin during a motor vehicle stop, police said.

It was about 2 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25 when Officer Jeremy Hartman of the Township of Hamilton Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop on a suspected drunk driver.

During the stop it was discovered that the driver, Fuquan Gilliard, 28, of Mays Landing, had an outstanding traffic warrant, police said.

While taking Gilliard into custody, Officer Hartman discovered a loaded handgun and more than 4 ounces of heroin on the floor in Gilliard's vehicle. The gun was subsequently found to be stolen.

Gilliard was charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, heroin distribution, possession of a weapon while committing CDS distribution, possession a stolen firearm, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving while intoxicated, contempt of court and multiple motor vehicle violations.

Gilliard was lodged in the Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility on $100,000 bail.
