HAMILTON TOWNSHIP â€“ A motorcycle accident Wednesday night, Sept. 25, on Weymouth Road claimed the life of a 54-year-old Lower Township resident.
Police say Lawrence E. Leonard, 54, of the Fishing Creek section of Lower Township was traveling east on Weymouth Road when a deer ran in front of his Honda Goldwing motorcycle.
Leonard struck the deer and laid his bike down; the rider, motorcycle, and the deer traveled approximately 120 feet, where they came to rest in the lane of travel, police said.
Moments later Leonard was struck again by a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Lawrence Keresty Jr., 72, of Mays Landing, was also traveling east on Weymouth Road and did not see the crash ahead of him in time, police said.
The Township of Hamilton Police Department responded at 8:03 p.m. to Weymouth Road near milepost 17. Also responding were Township of Hamilton Rescue and AtlantiCare Paramedics, who performed CPR on Leonard, and transported him to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, where he died of his injuries.
No tickets were issued pending further investigation.
Officer Smith and Detective Schalek are investigating the crash.
