Hamilton Township Police Department warns of possible river, lake flooding

HAMILTON - Though no flooding is occurring at the moment, the Hamilton Police Department is warning residents of possible minor to moderate river flood in the next few days.

“Locally Hamilton Township received roughly three inches of rain in the past few days,” the police department said in a release on Nixle.  “The Lake level is still fairly low.”

However, many towns in the west of Hamilton Township and in the same watershed received more than five inches of rain, the police said.

This water will travel downstream and reach Hamilton Township in the next few days, the police said.

LakeLenape flood gates have been open for several days in anticipation of the heavy rain that fell Wednesday, April 30. The gates will remain open until further notice.

“Although the lake level was lowered considerably, we will still experience minor to moderate flooding on both the (Great Egg River) and the lake,” the police said. “Please secure properties along these waterways appropriately.”

As of Thursday, May 1, About 2.5 inches of rain fell at the Atlantic City International Airport where the National Weather Service records official readings for Atlantic County.
