Suspect arrested in April crash that injured Hamilton officer

David McAvaddy David McAvaddy HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – A 41-year-old Egg Harbor Township man has turned himself in to the Hamilton Township Police Department to face charges in connection with an April 25 motor vehicle accident than injured a Hamilton police officer.

David McAvaddy was wanted for assault by auto, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He turned himself in Monday, June 16. 

Municipal Court Judge H. Robert Switzer, who authorized the warrant for McAvaddy, set bail at $20,000 full cash.  The suspect is lodged in the Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility in Mays Landing pending court.

The accident occurred on Route 40 at milepost 41.8 in the township’s Mizpah section when McAvaddy crossed the center line and struck Officer James Longo’s patrol SUV.  Officer Longo, who was doing traffic enforcement at the time, suffered multiple injuries and continues to recover.
