MAYS LANDING – America has voted. Kelly Glover, a local woman who sang her heart out on “America’s Got Talent” was sent home last night after the results show named the top six acts in round two of the semifinal talent competition.

According to the show website, Glover, 31, originally of Cranford, started her singing career at the Appolo Theater when she was 7 years old. She lives in Mays Landing now and is a food server at Applebee’s.

It was her second try at winning the $1 million top prize on “America’s Got Talent.” Last time she auditioned during season four, she was sent home when she reached Las Vegas.

She didn’t give up on her dream of being a singing star though, and this time made it all the way to the semifinals of season nine.

During her semifinalist performance Tuesday night, Glover got a slow start, but several bars into the Beyonce song “Love on Top,” she commanded the stage as eight backup singers danced on pedestals behind her.

Glover went up against rock cellists Emil and Dariel and comedienne Wendy Liebman in an elimination round that resulted in Emil and Dariel moving on to the top 12 finals competition next week.

Glover’s South Jersey neighbor, singer Mara Justine of Galloway, made it to the finals thanks to the Snapple save, which gave America a special 30-minute voting opportunity to send one of three candidates on to the finals. The 12-year-old singer will compete against 11 other acts in the finals, which will be broadcast 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 on NBC, with a recap show 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10. The results show naming the $1 million winner at Radio City Music Hall will be broadcast at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to Justine, the finalists are David and Leeman, Emil and Dariel, Sons of Serendip, ArcoArmy, Blue Journey, Miguel Dakota, Mat Franco, Quntavious Johnson, Christian Stoniev, Emily West and wildcard Mike Super.
