Service at super Walmart has room for improvement

To the editor:

When I first learned of the new super Walmart in Mays Landing, I was thrilled. I was hoping the problems that had haunted Walmart for years would lessen or disappear with the opening of the new store.

However, I felt disappointed after a few shopping trips to the new store, which is anything but a better place to shop than a traditional Walmart.

In the old store it used to take 20 to 30 minutes to make a return at customer service; in the new store it takes 45 minutes to an hour, even when you’re second in line. To get a yard of fabric cut used to take 10 minutes; now you have to wait 20 to 30 to see if someone will even show up. And the checkout lines are longer, even with more and smaller cash registers.

Employees at the new store not only seem to be lost but also sound more discourteous than before, as if they hate having to take care of more customers and ring up more products.

I feel that the new super Walmart is a rather disorganized and unwelcoming place. With the prices of items going up because of its massive expansion, the new store offers nothing really desirable to Mays Landing and the surrounding areas. To me and my friends, it is a lot wiser to shop at the nearby Target. We don’t mind paying 2 to 3 more cents there, for at least Target makes shopping a lot easier and far more pleasant.
