The Ruth Newman Shapiro (RNS) Cancer and Heart Fund on Aug. 29 presented Shore Medical Center with a check for $50,000, completing RNS’ $500,000 pledge in support of Shore Cancer Center’s RNS Radiation Therapy Suite.
The donation will be used to upgrade the center’s image guided radiation therapy. Since 1983, RNS has donated nearly $2 million to Shore Medical Center.
One of Shore Medical Center’s six centers of excellence, the Cancer Center’s radiation and medical oncology programs enable patients to receive all of their care and treatment under one roof.
The check was presented by RNS Cancer and Heart Fund President Joanne Kenny to Shore Medical Center President and CEO Ron Johnson and Vice President/Foundation Chief Development Officer Thomas J. Mundell.
“We are proud to support the Shore Cancer Center, and to help bring the most advanced technology for cancer treatment to the community,” said Kenny of Margate.
The Cancer Center, which is affiliated with the Penn Cancer Network, has received national recognition from the Association of Community Care Centers. Since 1987, the center has also been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons for meeting that organization’s stringent standards for patient care.
