The state Personal Assistance Services Program administered by the Atlantic County Division of Intergenerational Services provides assistance to county residents age 18-65 who have permanent physical disabilities. The gentle exercise program encourages flexibility, increases range of motion and promotes circulation. The Project Lifesaver for Alzheimer’s patients
The MAPS Foundation of South Jersey has teamed up with the sheriff’s departments in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties to help families of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients receive tracking bracelets under the Project Lifesaver program. A bracelet placed on the client’s arm is activated if they wander off. The MAPS Foundation will sponsor the monthly fee and set-up charge. PALS program at the Women’s Center
The Peace: A Learned Solution Program at the Women’s Center provides therapeutic services to children who have witnessed domestic violence or have been impacted by the divorce or separation of parents due to domestic violence. Through creative arts therapy, people explore emotions, increase self-awareness and self-esteem, and identify boundaries, cognitive skills and healthy coping mechanisms. Project SAVE provides in-home respite care and companionship visitation by qualified volunteers. Designed to allow caregivers of Alzheimer's patients a break from their daily routine, Project SAVE provides regular, scheduled in-home visitation by volunteers who are educated by the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter so caregivers can plan ahead for their time off. New Jersey Quitcenters offer a customized, face-to-face approach to quitting smoking. The Quitcenter model combines intensive individual or group counseling with the supervised use of nicotine patches, gum and inhalers. The Atlantic County Division of Public Health provides free screenings for heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other chronic illnesses. Services include pap smears and mammogram prescriptions for women and PSA testing and prostate examinations for men. Immunizations and screenings are available for children up to age 18 who have no insurance for a low annual fee. Flu shots are available by appointment to residents 18 and up for $15.
