MY BEST FRIEND

When we first met that long time ago

you were so happy, you had such a glow.

We became best friends, and we tied the knot

not ever thinking you could be shot.

Then you became a man in blue,

you thought that all your dreams had come true

I was so proud, I had such faith in you.

To serve and protect was always your dream,

whatever the cost so it seemed.

The days went on and reality set in,

This new man in blue was emerging within.

So callous, so cold it seems like a sin,

what happened to my best friend; I asked with a grin,

He’s under the badge, somewhere under the tin.

I never signed up for this! I said on a whim

My Love, my policeman his light has gone dim.
