She told her parents how she felt, and they advised her to think about doing something she loved, she said.
“I realized right then, I should be teaching,” Mansueto said. “It was the best piece of advice I have ever been given.”
The Linwood native became a teacher and returned to the district to teach first grade. She said returning to the schools where she once was a student felt like returning home.
The morale at Seaview makes coming to work easy, she said.
“There is such an awesome sense of teamwork and community between the staff, students and parents. The fact that we all have a common goal – to help mold these wonderful children into amazingly productive citizens – makes waking up for work each day a pleasure.”
The joy of learning that she gets to witness on her students’ faces sweetens the deal.
“I love to teach reading,” she said. “It is amazing to see the children’s faces light up when realize they can read all by themselves. They teach me something new each day. But I guess they remind me each day how important it is to appreciate the smallest of things.” Mansueto said children have a special ability to put things in a unique perspective.
“Just watch the joy a little boy or girl gets from getting something as simple as a new pencil,” she said.
