LINWOOD - A Mainland Regional High School student learned that even hinting at school violence is no joking matter. The Linwood police were called to the school Tuesday, Dec. 18 for a report of a public alarm.
According to Lt. Doug Carmen, a rumor was circulating around the high school that there was going to be a shooting at the school on Friday, Dec. 21.
An investigation revealed that the alarm originated with a 15-year-old girl sending a text message to a friend falsely reporting she heard a rumor that someone is going to come and shoot up the school on Friday.
The girl was arrested and charged with false public alarm, a third degree crime. She was released pending a court appearance.
