LINWOOD—Sunday evening the pews were filled at the Linwood Community Church to officially welcome and install Tim Vamosi as the new pastor of the congregation that began in 1936. The pastor’s installation marks the end of a two and a half year search. Vamosi replaces Rick John who moved onto another church in Colorado in 2010.

Vamosi came to Linwood most recently from Eastford, Connecticut where he said he and his wife were quite happy. “If you would have told me even six months ago that I would be here I would not have believed you. My plan was to stay in New England, we had a home there but you just don’t know what the Lord has in store for you,” said Vamosi Monday afternoon. “I think the good Lord just decided this was the place I needed to be.” He said New Jersey is a place that needs the gospel. “I have met warm and compassionate people who have a servant’s heart,” said the pastor.

While Vamosi is quick to say the people he has met have been wonderful, he admits he is finally just getting to do the things a minister normally does. The new pastor arrived at the church just a few days after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the east coast. The missionaries connected with Samaritan’s Purse were stationed at the church and their volunteers were eating their meals and sleeping in the gymnasium and in the classrooms.

“I arrived here and I was amazed at the warmth and compassion of the people. They were really driven to help others that were suffering after Sandy in whatever way they could. We had people coming here and preparing meals at 4 a.m. to help the volunteers who would go out every day. They were answering phones, taking information and from this one small office we were able to coordinate a great deal of help for people in our community and beyond,” said Vamosi.

Stephanie Delbiondo manages the office at the Linwood Community Church and said a search committee had been looking for more than two years before finding their new pastor. “The committee worked very hard to find the right person for our community. They prayed and did interviews and we are very happy with Pastor Vamosi. He is the shepherd of this flock,” said Delbiondo.

Asked about his plans for Linwood Community Church, Vamosi said some of the areas of concentration will be to reach the youth of the community. “I see our church as very involved in meeting their needs,” said Vamosi and added that it could really materialize in many forms. Whatever we can dream up that we think will be effective, we will be ready to give it a try said the pastor who admits he is very dedicated to preaching the word of God.

The first change will be to add a contemporary service at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in addition to the 11 a.m. service. Vamosi explained that a contemporary service will include a worship band and they will play Christian music. He said the music is an important part of the service adding that people relate to different types of music and he hopes the worship band and the additional service will appeal to congregants as well as new people.

Vamosi and his wife Rosa began their journey together in the service of the Lord about 25 years ago. Originally from Waynesburg, Pennsylvania Vamosi attended Waynesburg University, Penn State University and is a graduate of the Denver Baptist Bible College. His calling has taken them from Colorado to Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Connecticut and now to New Jersey. They are empty nesters with four grown children living across the country and brought with them a dog, a cat and one horse that they have stabled in Egg Harbor Township.
