LINWOOD—Owner and developer of the Cornerstone Commerce Center, Robin Karman said she had some big plans in the works for the former Mainland Gym site. The ink is finally dry on the contract with AC Top Docs, a group of physicians, chiropractors, orthopedists and the United Auto Workers Union who have partnered to bring a new kind of rehabilitation center and gym to the region.
Dr. Marc Cohen, a partner in the venture is a North East Philadelphia chiropractor. Cohen said that among the plans they are working on is one component that will include installing a pool to be used therapeutically in the 20,000 square foot space they are currently designing to fit their needs. That pool will include a tread mill in the water among other things.
Also planned is a new type of weights that Cohen indicated provide an excellent multi-joint workout for the post surgical patient. The center will be staffed with pain doctors who will be working with patients to find alternatives to narcotic pain meds. “Our push is not geared to narcotics to manage pain, rather we work with patients to find non-addictive solutions to their pain,” said Cohen.
He explained the connection with the UAW. “The United Auto Workers are self-insured and they contacted me as they are looking for ways to reduce their costs. We have brought in AtlantiCare to provide primary care physicians those patients,” said Cohen.
Dara Ellis, property management with Cornerstone Commerce Center said at this point they are hoping their client; AC Top Docs will be operational by sometime in May, dependent upon how quickly the construction progresses at the site. “We are really excited to have this group at the center. They bring a great deal to the region,” said Ellis.
