There She Is, Miss America" by Bernie Wayne

Bernie Wayne might not be a name that rings a bell but his contribution to the Miss America Pageant surely will. Wayne (1919-1993) from Paterson, New Jersey was a prolific songwriter who earned 11 gold records during his career. He is also responsible for “There She is, Miss America.”

The iconic song was part of the Miss America pageant for 25 years, starting in 1955 when host Bert Parks sang as Lee Meriwether took her first walk down the runway. And while the song may not serenade Miss America 2014, it is surely a fond memory.

There she is, Miss America
There she is, your ideal
The dreams of a million girls
Who are more than pretty
May come true in Atlantic City
Oh she may turn out to be
The queen of femininity
There she is, Miss America
There she is, your ideal
With so many beauties
She'll take the town by storm
With her all-American face and form
And there she is
Walking on air she is
Fairest of the fair she is
Miss America
Lyrics by Bernie Wayne
