NORTHFIELD—Tuesday afternoon Assemblyman John Amodeo called and congratulated Vince Mazzeo and made the following statement:
“I congratulate Mayor Vince Mazzeo on his successful campaign and wish him luck in his first term in the New Jersey Assembly.

The last few weeks have been particularly exhausting on everyone, but with only a handful of votes separating me and Mazzeo, we felt it was our duty to ensure that every vote was reviewed and re-counted.  That has been done to our satisfaction.

“I want to thank every voter for taking part in this critical election and give my heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked so hard on my behalf.  I am proud of the positive campaign we ran and our fight for good-paying jobs and lower property taxes, even if it fell short.

Serving you the last six years in the State Assembly was an amazing journey and I am so thankful the people of Atlantic County who gave me that opportunity.  I will continue to work to help the District in every way I can.”

Amodeo, a resident of Margate, came up a total of 39 votes short to Mazzeo 25,127 - 25,166 in the November 5 general election to represent the voters in the 2nd Legislative District that encompasses most of Atlantic County. After a recount of the voting machines along with the mail-in and provisional ballots Atlantic County Board of Elections certified the election Tuesday, Dec. 10, declaring Mazzeo the winner of the Assembly race. Republican Chris Brown was reelected to the Assembly.

Chris Brown said about his running mate and colleague “I want to thank John for his dedication to public service. John represented the people of the Second District with dignity and distinction.  I wish him well as he moves on."

The assemblyman added, " I also want to congratulate Vince Mazzeo on his election to the General Assembly, and look forward to working with Senator Whelan and Assemblyman-elect Mazzeo on the challenges facing Atlantic County and our state," concluded Brown.
