EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Kim Pack, the daughter of slain radio personality and veterans advocate April Kauffman of Linwood, announced Thursday morning that she has filed a federal lawsuit to keep her stepfather, Dr. James Kauffman, from receiving any money from his wife’s life insurance policy.

Appearing with her attorney, Patrick D’Arcy of Darcy Johnson Day at his Egg Harbor Township law office, she said her stepfather had filed a suit against Transamerica Life Insurance for failure to pay him $600,000 as the named beneficiary on two policies that had been taken out on April Kauffman.

She said she filed suit today, Jan. 23, to keep Dr. Kauffman from collecting any funds on her mother’s policy.

Speaking before Pack, D’Arcy cited the “slayer statute” that prohibits anyone who may have had something to do with the victim’s demise from benefiting from that death.

The attorney stressed that Pack was drawn into the legal action through Kauffman’s suit against the insurer because she is the contingent beneficiary on her mother’s policy.

“Trust me, I would much rather allow the prosecutor’s office to continue to investigate this case,” Pack said, but she has been “dragged into” the legal process.

Pack also announced that due to the pending litigation she will no longer be able to make comments to the media and asked that any questions be referred to her attorney.

April Kauffman was found murdered in her home on Woodstock Drive in Linwood the morning of May 10, 2012. No one has been charged in the murder. The investigation is being handled by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The law firm has set up a tip line for anyone who has information regarding the murder and is encouraging anyone who may have information to share it with them by calling 844-DJD-TIPS.
