Saturday evening, the Mainland Mustang baseball team, freshly crowned Group III State Champs, made the trip back from Toms River South High School along with a caravan of family, fans and the faithful Corral Crazies.

They were met at the Northfield city line by police cars and fire trucks – with sirens blaring and their lights flashing – from Northfield, Linwood and Somers Point.

The impromptu parade made its way down Shore Road through Linwood to Somers Point and then along New Road to the high school with people stopping to wave, honk and just be a part of the celebration.

Back at the high school, a crowd of well wishers had gathered to help the team savor their first state baseball title in school history.
