Students are not the only ones looking for changes when the school year draws to a close in the next few days; a number of educators will be leaving our schools this year.

There are 14 teachers and administrators heading on to the next chapter in their lives from the schools in Linwood, Northfield, Somers Point, CharterTech and Mainland Regional High School.

They have touched thousands of lives over the course of their careers, worked on plays, coached, mentored, wrote curriculum, attended more meetings than they would like to remember, dried lots of tears, laughed at many jokes, celebrated countless milestones with their students, not to mention assigning checking a veritable mountain of homework.

Collectively these educators have amassed more than three centuries of experience working with students and their families in our local schools, an amazing statistic.

Best wishes and good luck to each of these educators as they pack away their books and turn out the lights in their classrooms for the final time.

Leaving the Northfield Community School is Superintendent Janice Fipp after 25 years in the district as both a teacher and administrator. Veteran teacher Diane Meyborn left mid-year in December after more than 20 years in the school.

In Somers Point there are four retirees, all from the Dawes Elementary School; art teacher Ruth Kulisek leaves with 34 years of experience. Music teacher Lindsay Wilson has 36 years in front of the classroom. Kathy Riccardi has been teaching second-grade for 35 years. Social studies teacher Paul McCracken left at the end of December after 21 years in the district.
