6 arrested in attempted carjacking in Somers Point

somers point police logo SOMERS POINT — Police here have made six arrests in the case of an attempted carjacking at the intersection of Rte 9, New Road and Rte 52 which is McArthur Blvd. on one side and Laurel Drive on the other.

According to police, the accused went up to a car stopped at the traffic light and brandished weapons, demanding that the driver get out of the car. The driver did not get out, but sped off without any further incident.

Arrested after a police investigation were Zachary Hayes, 19, of Egg Harbor Township, who was charged with carjacking and conspiracy; Tashawn Simkins, 20, of Somers Point, who was charged with carjacking, conspiracy and aggravated assault; Justin Luker, 18, of Somers Point, who was was charged with carjacking, conspiracy and aggravated assault; and three juveniles, who were charged with carjacking and conspiracy.
