SOMERS POINT – A little elegance is beginning this week in the city that touts “Small town charm on the bay.”
Andrew and Adrienne Latz, owners of Latz’s By the Bay, will open their doors to their second floor starting Friday, Nov. 30 for afternoon tea at Latz’s Tea at the Top from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The second floor of their Bay Avenue restaurant will serve as the tea room, according to Ann Laltrello, tea consultant and former owner of Sweet Magnolia in Margate.

“Our guests will relax at tables set with gold tablecloths and Lenox China. It will be an elegant setting,” said Laltrello.

Latz’s Tea at the Top guests will select from more than 30 teas and tisanes in an atmosphere of warmth and elegance.

“This will be like afternoon tea at the Ritz or Four Seasons,” said Laltrello.

The server will bring a three-tiered silver tray to each table. The first level will be scones, the second level will be filled with tea sandwiches and the top tier will have four desserts. Each table will get a four-cup pot of tea wrapped in a handmade cozy.

“It is more than a substantial lunch and it is roughly an hour and a half experience for our guests,” said Laltrello.
The cost for afternoon tea is $21 per person.

In addition to serving afternoon tea, Latz’s Tea at the Top will host future tea tastings, seminars featuring tea etiquette and the health benefits of tea, children’s tea parties and business etiquette seminars. Reservations are recommended. Call (609) 788-8838.

Look for Latz’s By the Bay to host a special First Ladies Tea following the presidential inauguration, Monday, Jan. 21, 2013.
