Gregory’s cajun celebration

Awards dinner

The annual Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2189 Somers Point Awards Meatloaf Dinner, will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at the post located at 500 Bethel Road. Awards will be presented to a police officer, firefighter, public works employee, officer of emergency management and volunteer from Somers Point as well as to an Atlantic County Sheriff officer and Atlantic County Correction officer. Sub sale

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 352 will hold a sub sale 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at the post on First Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Somers Point. Subs are $5 for a half. Call ahead for large orders (609) 927-7145. The post will be collecting can goods for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and items for care packages for canine soldiers. Items to be collected are new or gently used tennis balls, one ingredient treats, Kong toys, Nylabone chews and toys, unscented shampoo with oatmeal for dry skin. Collapsible water bowls and leather leashes or monetary donations will be accepted to be used for shipping.

 

Tony Mart Allstar Jam

There will be a Tony Mart Allstar Jam benefit for Frank Gross, drummer and lead singer from the Shakes 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26 at Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro, 908 Shore Road. The $20 donation includes food stations of finger food, appetizers and desserts provided by Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro and Formica Brothers Bakery Café. Sponsors sought for 2012 Jazz @ the Point

The Somers Point Jazz Society is seeking sponsors for its 2012 Jazz @ the Point March 8-11 at various locations throughout Somers Point. Scheduled to appear are the Mulgrew Miller Trio, Jimmy Cobb and Cobb’s Mob, the Walt Weiskopf Sextet and the George Mesterhazy Trio with special guest Paula West. Proceeds benefit the arts program in Somers Point Public Schools. Sponsorships range from $500 upward. Call the Somers Point Jazz Society at (609) 927-6677.

Free blood pressure screenings

Free blood pressure screenings will be offered 11 a.m.-1 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Shore Medical Center Thrift Shop in the Somers Point Shopping Center on Route 9, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. every Friday at the Shore Memorial Hospital Prenatal Services building on the corner of New York Avenue and Shore Road across from the main hospital. American Legion Ladies Auxiliary membership drive

Tom Angello’s jazz

The Somers Point Unique Experiences Club will present Tom Angello’s Shore Jazz Quartet 7-10 p.m. Thursdays at Caroline’s Bar and Restaurant, Bay and Maryland avenues.  This quartet features some of the finest jazz musicians in South Jersey, including Tim Lekan on bass, Behn Gillece on vibraphone, Joe Breidenstine on trumpet and Tom Angello on drums. Many other local jazz musicians will stop by to play each Thursday.  Admission is free. Call (609) 226-0509.

 

Jersey Shore Ballroom Dance Club
