Veterans’ Park project needs your support

To the editor:

I am asking residents in the area to help honor our veterans by helping making sure the Veterans’ Park, located in Northfield, is completed.

While there has been a lot of hard work accomplished and substantial generosity shown in the first phases, the funds have run dry. Memorial Day and the Fourth of July have past and we have honored our veterans and soldiers. Sue Marino, a writer at The Current, wrote a beautiful article about Mr. Edwards, a World War II hero who passed away just before July 4.

Mayor Vince Mazzeo of Northfield also praised his service. The article brought tears to my eyes as I thought about my own father, a Marine Veteran, and how proud he would have been to see local veterans being honored for their service to our country.

A lot of you must have either a family member in the service or know someone who currently serves. We have veterans living in our own neighborhood who are getting older and will be leaving us soon.

So I am asking for the community’s help to complete the park so that they may enjoy it. I am asking the residents from our area to look for a few dollars or change to support the Northfield Veterans’ Park. If a small donation is not possible, please consider giving your time.

For more information on how to donate, contact the Northfield City Clerk’s office at (609) 641-2832, ext. 125.
