Tuesday night, the Ocean City High School After Prom Committee met as it always does, at 6 p.m. in the high school faculty lounge. Thursday night, the committee met again. It’s been doing this for about two months now, gearing up for the 20th anniversary edition of After Prom.

Last week, CareerCast.com issued its 25th annual report, naming newspaper reporter the worst job in America. This week, the U.S. Department of Labor ranked reporter No. 2 on its list of dying careers.

Those reports would have you think it must be awful to be a reporter. What could possibly be attractive about working in a high-stress environment for low pay and a future that grows bleaker by the day?

According to CareerCast.com, which on Wednesday released its list of worst jobs in America for 2013, newspaper reporter finished dead last among 200 career choices.

Mid-April makes it mark again

My mother always likes to say the last time something good happened on April 19, Paul Revere rode to warn U.S. patriots, “The British are coming! The British are coming!”

What she fails to add is that, two hours into his historic ride in 1775, he was captured.

Detours on Simpson Ave. are a dumb idea

Two weeks ago, two road blocks bearing orange detour signs appeared in the intersection of 31st Street and Simpson Avenue. Orange traffic cones radiate out in four directions from the road blocks.
