If you’ve never attended the open house for the After Prom at Ocean City High School, make sure you get yourself there between 7:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday. If you’ve done the tour before, you know you need to take it again.

OCEAN CITY – It’s amazing how Ocean City, a resort town that relies on the hospitality industry, can be so inhospitable.

I’m not talking about the sometimes misleading, hurtful and incendiary commentary that has accompanied the BYOB debate. I’m talking about the posts and the quotes from residents, the very same people who benefit directly from the largesse of those who choose to vacation here and spend their rental dollars on housing so that Ocean City residents can enjoy good services for relatively low taxes.

Or an H, two Ys, and some other letters in between.

With the war over BYOB becoming increasingly fearful – waged on a playing field where lies that are told often enough become their own truth – your faithful OC Unfiltered scribe has decided to accept the responsibility of spelling the issue out for you.

Since 70 percent of Americans drink alcohol, we can assume seven out of 10 adult visitors to Ocean City are inclined to imbibe. But due to archaic thinking, they can’t do so freely. Public consumption of alcohol here is a big no-no since a 1984 ordinance prohibited it, and it’s a bigger drain on the economy as carloads of happy hour habitués head out of town every day at sundown.

When her father ran over her foot with the car on Easter Sunday, it was just the latest in a long list of holidays my daughter has spent receiving medical attention.
