Cindy’s summer wish list
Written by Cindy Nevitt Friday, June 22, 2012 01:00 am
A few weeks ago, The Gazette published a Best of OC guide, in which various local “luminaries,” including some who work for this very publication, were asked to contribute their Top 10 summer to do lists.
I am certain the fact I was not asked for my list was an oversight, and not an intentional snub.
It is only because I know there are readers paralyzed with indecision as to how to move on with their summer – simply because they are sitting at home asking themselves “What Would Cindy Do?” (or WWCD?) – that I have committed to putting my list on paper. Or online, to be more precise.
So, without further ado, here is what Cindy would do:
10) Eat pizza at the original Three Brothers location on the Ocean City Boardwalk. A few years ago, I would have a slice of white with mozzarella, or chicken and broccoli, or buffalo chicken, or shrimp and broccoli, at least three times a week. Probably more. I’ve gotten out of the habit in the last two years, and I miss that pizza.
9) Have a soft-shell crab sandwich and a beer sitting on the dock at the Lobster House in Lower Township, just before crossing into Cape May proper.
8) Play miniature golf somewhere than other on a cruise ship. For some reason, because the golf course is there on the ship, I manage to get in a game. For some completely different reason, such as the $7 fee to play on the boardwalk, I can’t seem to make it happen.
7) Take a ride on the Ferris wheel at Gillian’s Wonderland and get a gander at the new Route 52 bridge. I haven’t visited an amusement park in town since my children were small, which was a good 10 years ago.
6) Bicycle over the Ocean City-Longport Bridge without having to get off the bike and walk it up the crest. Since my old-fashioned cruiser doesn’t have any gears, that uphill climb with the wind in my face always defeats me.
5) Chill out at Positively 4th Street Café with my family. Since everyone works a different schedule on different days, this will be challenging to accomplish. But if I ask myself, “WWCD?,” and I answer: Chill out at 4th Street with a muffin, an iced tea and some word games on my iPhone, I shall endeavor to get it done. And I will ignore my family’s baseless accusations that I cheat at word games.
4) Create a new lunch special and test it out at Ready’s Coffee Shop on Eighth Street. This is something my husband does on a year-round basis. I shall confine my menu tampering to the summer only, which should be the most inconvenient time for Ready’s to accommodate me.
3) Visit each of the four frozen yogurt stores that have opened in town and do a taste test. Not to declare a winner, but simply to do it.
2) Take a whale-watching tour. I’d really rather go on a cruise to Alaska, and see it before it melts in my lifetime, but that’s not within the realm of possibility and getting it done this summer.
1) Go to the Cape May County Zoo and marvel at the giraffes, my favorite animals. And check, yet again, to see if those white snow leopards actually exist because I haven’t seen them in many trips despite their being born two years ago.
