Ocean City Theatre Company announces fall class lineup

OCEAN CITY — The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company will be offering an array of shows and classes this fall with programs designed for the youngest students that serve as an introduction to the performing arts, as well as, classes for students with an extensive performing arts background.

Below is a listing of class offerings that are still open:
Murder mystery production for sixth through 12th grade
Auditions are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. at Ocean City Theatre Company, 854 Asbury Ave., second floor. This fully staged murder mystery play is under the direction of professional director and actor John Anker Bow. Performances will be held at the Ocean City Music Pier Oct.27 and 28. There is a participation fee of $150.
Fall master class Sundays for sixth through 12th grade
OCTC is proud to offer four rewarding classes for students who are interested in various aspects of theatre. Take advantage of learning from some of the most talented Directors, Choreographers, Actors and Dancers in the Industry. Sign up for all four or just one! Save money by signing up for all four classes. Each class is $15 or sign up for all four classes and pay $50 total. A savings of $10.00. All classes start at noon and go until 1:15.
Sunday, Oct. 7: Improvisational acting workshop
This class incorporates movement-based exercises, scene work and group exercises to explore the primary fundamentals of improvisation, making you more confident on stage. Take advantage of this high-energy, fun-filled class to learn how to make big, strong choices on stage!
Sunday, Oct. 14: Musical theater choreography
This class is perfect for students who have a desire to learn the original Broadway choreography and acting moments from some of the greatest Broadway musicals. This class is geared for people with movement/dance training of all levels. No dance experience necessary! Please come dressed ready to move and have jazz shoes or plain sneakers.
Sunday, Oct. 21: Hip-hop Broadway
Learn a totally different style and experience some of the greatest hip-hop choreography featured in Broadway shows like “In The Heights,” “Bring In The Noise, Bring In The Funk,” “Bring It On” and more. This class is geared for people with movement or dance training of all levels. No dance experience necessary. Come dressed ready to move and have jazz shoes or plain sneakers.
Sunday, Oct. 28: Creating a character through song
The class will focus on creating a believable musical theater character through song. The focus will be on the importance of telling a story through song and students will be taught musical theater techniques to aid them in doing so. Creating a stage presence, uniquely their own, will be of major importance. Many people have great voices, but that doesn’t mean they are great singers.
Creative drama classes for kindergarten through second grade
Kids will experience creative movement, improvisational skills, mime, theater games, storytelling, reader’s theater and much more in these jam-packed, high-energy classes. Sign up for one class or sign up for all four. Each class is $15 or sign up for all four classes and pay $50 total. Classes will be held 5:15-6:15 p.m. Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24.
Introduction to acting: Storytelling and beyond for third through sixth grade
This workshop is a ‘crash course’ for young artists interested in learning the nuts and bolts of an actor’s work. Students will explore the concept of acting as it relates to storytelling, and learn basic techniques for creating a performance, as well as audition etiquette and professionalism. Students will then apply those techniques to a monologue of their own selection, suitable for use in auditions. Classes will be held 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24. There is a participation fee of $75.
Private voice coaching for fifth through 12th grade
Experience one-on-one private singing lessons to perfect vocal technique and singing skills with trained music instructors who have experience working to prepare for college auditions, school singing, musical theatre, classical music and choral works. Sign up for six, 45-minute lessons and pay $270.
Private acting coaching for sixth through 12th grade
Experience one-on-one private acting lessons to perfect acting technique with trained instructors who have experience working to prepare for college auditions and school auditions. Develop personalized skills to make you a stronger, more confident performer. Private coaching can be generally technique based or targeted toward a specific role, monologue or upcoming audition preparation. All coaching sessions will be instructed by regional theater performer John Anker Bow for a fee of $75 per hour or $45 per half-hour.
Fully staged holiday production
Kids in third through eighth grade are encouraged to sign up to perform a holiday story never before told at the Ocean City Music Pier. The fully-staged play, “Yours Truly, Jack Frost,” will be feature a cast of young actors in a chance to spread the spirit of the season. Auditions and rehearsals begin Nov. 4 with shows on Dec. 22. There is a participation fee of $175.
OCTC offers financial assistance and scholarships for students in need.
