Arts Center pays tribute to Fishing Club in January
In recognition of the Ocean City Fishing Club’s 100th year in 2013, the Ocean City Arts Center in the Community Center, 1735 Simpson Ave., will host an exhibition of new paintings depicting the iconic fishing pier and clubhouse at 14th Street and the beach.
The paintings are being created by the South Jersey Plein Air Group, which consists of local artists who paint outdoors at a designated location within the region. The exhibit will run through the month of January, with a meet the artists reception 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the arts center. ‘I Love New York’
Greater Ocean City Theatre Company presents “I Love New York: A Cabaret of Broadway Love Songs” 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 beginning with a dessert reception at the Hughes Performing Arts Center at the Ocean City High School, Sixth Street and Atlantic Avenue. Celebrate love with enchanting, unforgettable and lovey-dovey songs. Performers from OCTC will return to the stage in a casual, entertaining and intimate cabaret of favorites from the Great White Way. Tickets purchased before 4:30 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 14 are $18. Tickets prices will go to $20 thereafter and can be purchased by calling 525-9300 or online at ww.ocnj.us/boxoffice.
Art on Asbury reopens for Judge's Show
The Ocean City Fine Arts League is happy to announce that they have reopened the Art on Asbury Gallery. In January, the gallery will feature the fine artwork of the Art on Asbury judges, who volunteered their time and expertise to judge the shows throughout the year. Featured artists include: Marilyn Brent, Lance Balderson, Michael Waters, Steve Kuzma, Paula Angelo and Judy Scull. A meet the artist reception will be held 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at 608 Asbury Ave. in Ocean City. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public and the show runs through the end of January.
The Art on Asbury artists will also be showing their work in January at the Ocean City Art Center, 17th and Simpson, for the 14th Street Fishing Pier Show. For more information, call 814-0308 or see www.oceancityfineartsleague.org.
Epiphany Concert
On Jan. 6, 2013, the Cape Shore Chorale, under the direction of Scott Breiner, will present an Epiphany Concert at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 30th Street and Bay Avenue in Ocean City. Featured will be Johann Sebastian Bach’s five-part emotional motet, “Jesu, Priceless Treasure,” and Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” which has become one of the most popular of all choral works.
