It’s the spring Block Party this weekend in Ocean City It’s the spring Block Party this weekend in Ocean City OCEAN CITY — Food, music and hundreds of crafters will be offered along a mile of Asbury Avenue for the Spring Block Party 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

The event runs from Fifth to 14th Streets in the downtown and is produced by the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce.

The event began more than 30 years ago. It first covered two blocks, but it quickly gained popularity and soon extended through the entire downtown commercial area, according to Ocean City publicist Mark Soifer.

One of its first features was a Greek Food Festival that will be back for the 30th time this year at the corner of Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue. It raises funds for the Holy Trinity Church of Egg Harbor Township.

Entertainment is varied and spread throughout the Block Party area from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free pony rides and the balloon magic of Chad Juros will be available at the Tabernacle Grounds at Sixth Street.

The Big Daddy Band will also be at Sixth Street and the Robert Boney Band at Seventh Street. Singer Tony De Luca will be at Ninth Street and the Tidal Wave Band at 10th Street. The Bubba Mac Blues Band will perform at 13th Street and singer Keith Hickman at 14th Street.

Free parking will be available on West and Central avenues. Boardwalk merchants feature table sales during the weekend, as will Asbury Avenue merchants. Boardwalk amusement centers will also be open over the weekend.
