A sweet treat: time again for Flanders Hotel gingerbread contest

OCEAN CITY -- Arlene Voudouris, Karen Bergman and Chef Michael Druker discuss the annual gingerbread house contest at The Flanders Hotel. Voudouris, owner of The Shoppes at Flanders, and Bergman, director of catering, explained this is the third year of the contest, which includes two categories: adults and children. The contest begins right after Thanksgiving and ends Dec. 17. Judges include Mayor Jay Gillian, Council President Michael Allegretto, Freeholder Susan Sheppard and a representative from the Ocean City Arts Center; and judging begins at 1 p.m. The winner of the contest for adults receives a two-night stay in the penthouse of The Flanders. The child winner receives a gift basket of toys and all children participants receive Boardwalk ride tickets for the summer. Drucker, of Vineland, said this is his second year overseeing the creation of the gingerbread house by The Flanders staff.
