Three local high schools have been named to Newsweek's "America's Best High Schools" list.
The Big Story
Ocean City High School, Mainland Regional High School and Egg Harbor Township High School were recently named to Newsweek's "America's Best High Schools" list. It is Ocean City's second consecutive year on the list and Mainland and Egg Harbor Township's first.
There are more than 25,000 high schools across the nation, and Ocean City High School Principal Matthew Jamison said it was a “great accomplishment” to make the list.
“It’s really a feat just to be selected,” he said. “I’m very proud of our students, our faculty and staff, our parents and the school community.
“This is really an honor for our entire school community,” said Egg Harbor Township High School Principal Terry Charlton. “All of the stakeholders play a role: the students, the staff, the parents, central administration and the Board of Education. If you take out one of those groups, this would not have been possible.”
Each year the news magazine selects 1,000 public high schools that have proven to be the most effective in turning out college-ready graduates. This year, that list expanded to 2,000, which allowed Egg Harbor Township’s ranking to be listed.
Egg Harbor Township ranked 1,563 on the list, Mainland was 1,266 and Ocean City ranked 872.
