A Villas couple survived a house explosion on Thursday, local elections saw some major upsets, and another dead dolphin washed up on the South Jersey shore.

The Big Story

A single family home in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue was destroyed around 4 p.m. Thursday by what appears to have been a gas explosion.

“It was no more than 100 feet from my house,” said Mayor Michael Beck. “I was at the stove cooking something with my grandson and we heard it go. We ran outside, as did most of the neighborhood.

“There was debris everywhere. Neighbors were able to pull the couple out of the house,” he said.

The house was virtually demolished by the explosion. There was a crater and some walls standing where the house had been. Debris was scattered across the street. Neighbors said they pulled a couple out of the house while it was still on fire.
