OCEAN CITY – Ocean City High School was deemed safe and secure and students returned to classes about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The school was placed on lockdown for more than two hours after a threatening note was discovered in a boy’s restroom about 10:15 a.m.
According to Capt. Steve Ang, school officials immediately notified the police department after discovering the threatening note and a lockdown was implemented.
“It was a level one lockdown, the least severe,” said Ang. “In a level one threat, no classes may change, the students stay in their classes, behind closed doors while the police investigate the threat.”
After it was deemed that the football field at Carey Stadium adjacent to the school was secure, the students were then evacuated to the football field.
“Eventually it was determined that the search was going to take longer than planned, so the students were taken out of the building,” said Ang.
With the students outside the building, Ang said the police could perform a more thorough search. Meanwhile, access to streets surrounding the high school was cut off.
Ang said that students were returned to class after “nothing to substantiate the threat” was found.
