New stores coming to boardwalk for summer 2012

Bucking a recent trend, not a pizzeria among them

Bob’s Breakfast Express and Pizza at 1368 Boardwalk is being gutted in preparation for a retail operation.

OCEAN CITY – Last year, the boardwalk hit critical mass with 18 pizzerias in a seven-block span. How many was too many, many asked.

For Bob’s Pizza Express, the answer is 18.

After 22 years, Bob’s at 1368 Boardwalk is tossing the pizza concept and giving way to a new retail operation. Owner Russell Hendricks said when Bob’s started serving pizza, there were eight to 10 pizza shops on the boards. With practically double that number on the boards today, most merchants are getting a smaller cut of the pie. Bob’s is the first to bow out of the big slice war.

A few doors away at 1358 Boardwalk, the owners of Onni are transforming the junior clothing store Heaven’s Apparel into a new retail concept that will be unveiled in a few weeks.

At 1136 Boardwalk, Laura’s Fudge will be replaced by The Dog Shack. In the 800 block, Yianni’s is taking over OC Grill’s spot at 822 Boardwalk, and Peace, Love & … is taking over Atlantic Books’ spot at 820 Boardwalk.

Yianni’s is moving into OC Grill’s spot, making the location at 822 Boardwalk the café’s third operation in town.

Peace, Love & … is taking over the Atlantic Books store at 820 Boardwalk.
