OCEAN CITY — An early morning accident involving a school bus and a pick-up truck resulted in two students being sent to the hospital on Monday, April 16.

According to Ocean City Police Capt. Steve Ang, the crash occurred at 6:54 a.m. at the intersection of Asbury Avenue and Seventh Street.

A white Ford pick-up truck driven by Peter Perez of Mays Landing was traveling westbound on Seventh Street. Ang said the driver claims he came to a stop at the stop sign and then proceeded through, striking a small school bus as it was traveling on Asbury Avenue. According to Ocean City School District transportation coordinator and Primary School Principal Joanne Walls, the bus was operated by a driver from Sheppard Bus Company.

“He was issued a summons for failing to yield the right of way at the stop sign,” Ang said.

He said the two passengers on the bus, both students, were taken to the hospital for complaints of pain, but injuries did not appear to be serious.

“Police had everyone under control,” Walls said of the incident. “My main concern was ‘Were the students OK?’”
