OCEAN CITY — Following a parade on the Ocean City Boardwalk Wednesday, July 25 the Miss Night in Venice contestants took the stage inside the Music Pier to see who would be crowned Miss Night in Venice.
Collecting the most money was Jennie Kerbeck sponsored by Gabriel Building Group. Caroline Bowman, sponsored by Johnson’s Popcorn, was first runnerup and April Stein, sponsored by Bongo Café and Grille, was second runnerup.
This year’s 12 contestants – Kerbeck, Bowman, Stein, Ashlyn Laveson, Brittany Lane, Allison Abramowitz, Megan Reilly, Michele Snyder, Kaitlyn Saal Ridpath, Lyndsey Jackson, Jessica Costello and Chloe Fama – surpassed amounts collected in previous pageants to benefit the Ocean City High School After Prom, Sunshine Foundation, HERO Campaign and Shore Medical Center nursing scholarships. In addition, the Night in Venice committee presented a $10,000 check to the city for the Night in Venice events.
As part of her duties, Miss Night in Venice and her court will lead the Night in Venice boat parade Saturday evening. The festivities will kick off on Friday evening in the downtown with the Merchants in Venice Seafood Festival. Then on Saturday at 6 p.m., a parade of decorated boats will float down the back bay from the Longport Bridge to Tennessee Avenue, passing decorated homes along the way. The evening is a cause for celebration throughout the island with spectators lining the bridges and bayfront, and parties all around the island.
This is the first year in the history of the parade that the Route 52 bridge will not have to be opened to accommodate boat traffic thanks to the new, elevated span that opened in May.
The Miss Night in Venice committee consists of co-chairs Pat Gillian and Sam Capizzi, and committee members Maryann Jones, Sue Doll, Cathy Finnegan, Alice Wolf, Maribeth Neall and Nancy Ely.
