OCEAN CITY — Special guest readers filled the classrooms at Ocean City Primary School on Friday, March 1 for Read Across America Day.

In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, schools across the country participate in Read Across America, usually set for March 2, to promote reading. Some schools host dress up days for the National Education Association event. In Ocean City, children were asked to wear their pajamas.

Primary School Principal Joanne Walls said the idea was to show kids that reading wasn’t just for school, but you can read anywhere, even in your pajamas. Ocean City’s Friends of the Library coordinated the event, gathering volunteers from all facets of Ocean City life, police officers, politicians, veterans and more.

Walls said the school has been participating in Read Across America all seven years she has been at the school, and for several years before that.
