OCEAN CITY — A man was airlifted to the hospital after being rescued by the US Coast Guard from a fishing vessel in waters off southern New Jersey Saturday.

Staffers from the Atlantic Warrior contacted the Coast Guard around 9:30 p.m. March 29 to report a 42-year-old man was experiencing pain and required medical assistance.

At the time, the vessel was about 60 miles southeast of Ocean City.

The Coast Guard dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City to the scene, along with an HC-130 Hercules aircraft from the Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City, N.C.

The Dolphin helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer to the deck of the Atlantic Warrior to help the ailing man. The two were then hoisted into the helicopter, which took the man to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
