OCEAN CITY — American Legion Post 524 of Ocean City has become a Silver Star Sponsor for the fifth annual Walk for the Wounded by donating $2,500 to the event. A nonprofit organization, the American Legion provides services to veterans from all branches of our nation’s military.

Ocean City Home Bank and Operation First Response will present the fifth annual Walk for the Wounded Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Ocean City Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. This event is supported each year through sponsorships and individual pledges.

“The American Legion is committed to supporting our nation’s veterans and community programs. We have participated in Operation First Response’s Walk for the Wounded since it originated in 2009, and are pleased to join forces again this year,” said Ken Byerly, service officer for the American Legion.

Additional sponsors for this year’s event include Shore Medical Center, Catamaran Media (The Ocean City Gazette), Lite Rock 96.9, The Tahiti Inn, McMahon Agency, The Crab Trap, Kilpatrick Townsend, Kelly Benefits and South Jersey Industries.

Businesses are invited to choose from five different levels of sponsorships ranging from the most prestigious Medal of Honor Sponsor to an honorable Purple Heart Sponsor. Organizations can also place advertisements in the event’s dedication booklet for a fee thanking our nation’s servicemen. The dedication booklet will be delivered to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, so soldiers can see the support.

Operation First Response, a national nonprofit organization, assists soldiers from the onset of injuries, during their recovery period and throughout their transition back to civilian life. Of every dollar raised, Operation First Response donates 90 cents to injured soldiers and their families.
