OCEAN CITY — A Pine Hill woman was charged with driving while intoxicated Friday evening after she drove her car into the bay, Ocean City Police Capt. Steve Ang said.

Around 7: 45 p.m. on Oct. 11, Patricia Garvey, 56, was heading west on Battersea Road in the city’s north end when she came upon the bulkhead at the bay and drove through it into the water, Ang said.

He said her car floated to the nearby dock at the Ocean City Yacht Club, which was hosting a private party at the time. There, two bystanders, Bill McGinnity and Bill Haddock, heard the noise and were able to pull Garvey from her car window to safety on the dock, Ang said.

Police responded to the scene and Garvey was transported to Shore Medical Center for evaluation.

“Thank goodness there were people at the yacht club,” Ang said.
