10 firearms seized after Ocean City standoff

An armed man surrendered in Ocean City this morning after a standoff of about an hour, according to police.

The Cape May County SWAT team, the county hostage negotiations team and officers with the county prosecutor’s office joined Ocean City Police surrounding a property in the 200 block of Bay Avenue on Tuesday morning, after a man allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a handgun.

According to information from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, Robert Jones, 55, threatened his girlfriend with a handgun in their apartment. She fled and called 911.

Ocean City Police responded, and set up a perimeter around the apartment at about 8:21 a.m. Tuesday.

At 9:40 a.m., Jones was taken into custody without incident, according to police. County officials said late Tuesday that charges are pending.

Officials sought and received a search warrant. According to the prosecutor’s office, officers seized three handguns and seven rifles and shotguns.
