OCEAN CITY – Ocean City police are searching for a man they say attempted to use counterfeit money on the boardwalk three times Monday afternoon.

Police say he attempted to use counterfeit $50 bills first at the 1000 block of the boardwalk, then twice in the 600 block. He passed the bills after making a small item purchase, police said.

The department said that they were notified quickly, and were able to immediately notify all boardwalk and downtown merchants about the counterfeit money.

Police have sent out photos of a person of interest, who they say was in the vicinity during all three incidents and fits the description of the person involved in the counterfeit attempts. The man appears to have tattoos on both arms, facial hair, and a distinctive hair cut in the back. He was accompanied Monday by a middle-aged woman, a girl, and a disabled child in a wheelchair.

Anyone who recognizes him should contact the Ocean City Police Department at 609-399-9111. Merchants who suspect they received counterfeit money should also report it with the department.
