To the editor:

In the April 30 edition of the Ocean City Gazette under Council Briefs there was a completely erroneous headline and article entitled "Hinchman suggests asking Manco and Manco to close." In fact, what I said was the principal of Manco, Chuck Bangle, should step down as chair of Ocean City's Tourism Committee at least temporarily.

How the reporter got the story that wrong is something I don't understand. The tape verifies what I said. Unfortunately, many will not see this letter or what I hope is a separate retraction and apology from the Gazette.

Mr. Bangle was courteous enough to call me back (after I called the 9th street store) and was gracious during the conversation.

The headline and short story made no sense. I ask the Gazette to be more careful in the future. In my mind, Manco and Manco is one of the icons of Ocean City. I along with my extended family are regular year-round customers.
