Keep dogs out of block parties

To the editor:

About a year ago, the city chose not to endorse the city wide yard sale for fear of being connected to an event where items possibly contaminated during Hurricane Sandy may have been offered for sale.  Apparently, the logic was that if someone bought an item that was contaminated and became ill, the city could be held liable due to its involvement.

I wholeheartedly believe there is a liability exposure for the city much more likely to bring litigation - dogs are permitted on Asbury Avenue during the block party events.

When you have thousands of people and hundreds of dogs, it is only a matter of time before 'dog bites ______ (fill in the blank with "child", "man", "woman" or "show dog") ' becomes the basis of a lawsuit.  Undoubtedly, Ocean City will be named as one of the litigants for organizing the event during which the incident occurred.  Ocean City government officials would be wise to ban dogs on Asbury during all future block parties to avoid this problem.
