Diandre R. Boots, 55, of Pleasantville was arrested Dec. 31 by Ptl. Ralph Burke and charged with aggravated assault.

Ladisalo Sanchez-Jiminez, 37, of Pleasantville was arrested Jan. 1 by Ptl. Kamen Potts and charged with driving while under the influence.

Evening with the Arts supports Absecon education

ABSECON – Although there will be three big 50-50 raffle winners at An Evening with the Arts Friday, Jan. 25, the real winners will be the hundreds of children served by the Absecon School District.

An Evening with the Arts is the Absecon Education Foundation’s second-largest fundraiser, explained AEF representative Janice Clarke, EmmaC.AttalesSchool secretary.

Police seek man who posed as an officer

Absecon police released this photo of a man they believed tricked a 24-year-old Brigantine woman into believing he was a police officer. Absecon police released this photo of a man they believed tricked a 24-year-old Brigantine woman into believing he was a police officer.

ABSECON – The Absecon Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who posed as a police officer and conducted a motor vehicle stop last week.

The man conducted the stop at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at the intersection of Absecon Boulevard, commonly known as Route 30.

PLEASANTVILLE – Three new Board of Education members took the oath of office Tuesday, Jan. 8, including Jerome Page, a day after a trespassing charge against him was dismissed.

Page, Tony Davenport and Michael Bright were sworn in at the school board’s annual reorganization meeting held at Pleasantville High School.

Pleasantville's Mays to receive Atlantic County MLK award

Atlantic County will bestow its Martin Luther King Award on Perry Mays of Pleasantville 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the 26th annual ceremony to honor the life and legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

The event will be held at the county office building at 1333 Atlantic Ave. in Atlantic City.

Mays is the chairman of Stop the Violence in Atlantic County and the former director of Community Partnerships for Health Engagement for AtlantiCare. He is also past director of Atlantic County Weed and Seed, an organization that strives to help residents take back their communities by weeding out bad elements.

The keynote address will be presented by Rev. John Howard, pastor of New Baptist Church in Atlantic City, founder of the John Howard Gospel caravan, and a past county MLK award recipient.

Absecon Police Blotter, edition of Jan. 11, 2013

The Absecon Police Department handled 28,950 calls for service in 2012 – about 79 per day. Police investigated 559 motor vehicle accidents, responded to 680 medical calls and made 625 arrests, 61 for driving while intoxicated.

Edward Crawford, 45, of Absecon was arrested Dec. 1 at New Jersey Avenue and Mechanic Street and charged with disorderly conduct and on outstanding warrants. He was remanded to the Gerard L. Gormley Justice Facility in Mays Landing in lieu of posting bail.
